In a major step toward digital governance, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a new automated system that simplifies the process of obtaining birth and death certificates across Pakistan. The initiative aims to make registration faster, more transparent, and more accessible for citizens.
A Fully Digital Registration System
Under the new system, hospitals and health centers are now directly linked with NADRA, allowing them to instantly send notifications of births and deaths. Once a notification is generated, citizens receive an alert via SMS or through the NADRA mobile app, guiding them on how to complete their registration at their respective Union Council.
This marks a shift from the manual, paper-based system that often caused long delays and required multiple visits to government offices. Citizens can now complete the process through:
- NADRA’s mobile application
 - Authorized health facilities
 - Nearby Union Council offices

Currently launched in select districts as a pilot project, the system will gradually be expanded nationwide. According to NADRA officials, thousands of birth and death records have already been processed digitally within weeks of the system’s rollout.
Making Life Easier for Citizens
The new process reduces red tape and waiting time significantly. Previously, citizens had to gather physical documents, visit government offices multiple times, and face manual verification delays. With this update:
- Registration can now be completed within a few minutes at the hospital or online.
 - All data is verified and stored digitally, ensuring accuracy and reducing the chances of forgery.
 - Parents and legal heirs no longer need intermediaries or agents to process certificates.

This initiative reflects NADRA’s broader goal of bringing government services to citizens’ fingertips, improving both efficiency and accessibility.
Benefits Beyond Convenience
The impact of digital registration goes far beyond convenience.
- Transparency and Data Accuracy: Real-time data collection ensures that every birth and death is recorded properly, helping eliminate corruption and record tampering.
 - Public Health Planning: Reliable demographic data helps the government in healthcare planning, vaccination drives, and population studies.
 - Ease of Access for Rural Citizens: Integration with hospitals and local councils means that even citizens in remote areas can register births and deaths quickly.
 - Digital Identity Integration: Birth registration instantly links new citizens with the national database, forming the foundation for future ID issuance and documentation.

Strengthening Pakistan’s Digital Future
Officials say this initiative is part of NADRA’s broader push toward Digital Pakistan, ensuring that essential services such as identity registration, verification, and certification are automated and accessible nationwide.
By connecting hospitals, local councils, and citizens through a unified data system, NADRA has taken another step toward building a transparent, efficient, and inclusive governance framework.
As the system scales up, the authority plans to expand integration across all provinces, eventually making Pakistan one of the few countries in South Asia with fully digital birth and death registration.
