The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted approval for the adoption of Wi-Fi 7 and subsequent Wi-Fi generations within the 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz). The announcement marks a major milestone in the country’s digital advancement, aligning with earlier parameters set for Wi-Fi 6E.

With this approval, Pakistan has positioned itself among the early adopters of Wi-Fi 7 in the Asia-Pacific region, reflecting the country’s growing commitment to innovation, technological leadership, and improved digital infrastructure.

According to the PTA, Wi-Fi 7 offers significant advantages, including ultra-high data rates, low latency, and robust reliability. The technology is expected to enable 8K video streaming, seamless augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) applications, as well as advanced industrial automation. Officials noted that Wi-Fi 7 will also help ease congestion in existing frequency bands and reduce broadband delivery costs, ultimately strengthening connectivity across the country.

The introduction of Wi-Fi 7 is expected to benefit households, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), universities, healthcare institutions, and smart cities by providing faster and more efficient internet access. Experts believe that this move will not only improve the user experience but also support the digitalization of key sectors, including education, health, and commerce.

PTA highlighted that the development demonstrates its commitment to narrowing the digital divide and promoting inclusivity in Pakistan’s digital economy. The adoption of the 6 GHz band is anticipated to enhance resilience in the broadband ecosystem, paving the way for advanced services and smarter solutions in the years ahead.

Industry analysts view this decision as a significant step forward for Pakistan’s telecommunication landscape, with the potential to boost competitiveness and align with global technology trends.
