Pakistan’s IT and tech sector has achieved a historic milestone, recording $366 million in exports in a single month, according to fresh data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The record-breaking figure highlights the growing strength of Pakistan’s digital economy and its rising role in global technology services.
Digital Momentum: A 21% Yearly Growth
The SBP report revealed that IT exports grew 21% year-on-year during the first quarter of the 2025–26 fiscal year. This strong performance reflects continued global demand for Pakistani software development, IT consultancy, and digital outsourcing services.
Industry experts believe this surge has been driven by Pakistan’s expanding freelancer base, improved digital infrastructure, and growing investor confidence in the country’s tech ecosystem.
According to Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) data, software houses and tech startups have also played a key role in boosting exports by expanding into international markets, especially North America and the Middle East.
Current Account Turns Positive
In another encouraging sign, Pakistan’s economy posted its first current account surplus of the fiscal year, amounting to $110 million, compared to a deficit of $325 million in the same period last year. Analysts say this turnaround was supported by higher remittances, stable imports, and growing IT export receipts.
Economist Dr. Khaqan Najeeb, commenting on the data, noted,
“The sustained rise in IT exports shows how digital services are emerging as a key pillar of Pakistan’s economy. With the right policy environment, this sector can become one of the top foreign exchange earners within the next few years.”
A Boost for Pakistan’s Digital Future
The government has emphasized its focus on supporting IT-led growth through tax incentives, special technology zones, and skills training programs under the Digital Pakistan initiative. Experts believe such measures will further strengthen export competitiveness and create new opportunities for the country’s youth.
As global demand for software and cloud solutions continues to climb, Pakistan’s IT professionals are increasingly being recognized for their technical expertise and cost-effective innovation.
With record-breaking monthly numbers and a positive trade outlook, the country’s tech sector appears well on its way to becoming a cornerstone of economic stability.
