Is that call really from Meezan Bank? Scammers are now using advanced technology to mimic official bank helplines. Here is how to spot the fraud and protect your money.

The Threat: What is Happening?

A sophisticated wave of banking fraud is currently targeting Meezan Bank customers. In an alarming trend, fraudsters are using Caller ID Spoofing technology to mask their identity.

When these scammers call you, your phone screen may display the official Meezan Bank helpline numbers: 021-111-331-331 or 021-111-331-332.1

This false sense of security leads many customers to answer the call and trust the person on the other end, believing they are speaking to a genuine bank representative.

How the Scam Works: The Modus Operandi

Scammers typically use “Social Engineering” tactics to manipulate you into sharing sensitive information. Here is the typical script they follow:

  1. The Hook: The caller claims to be a bank officer calling from the Head Office or Fraud Department. They may say your account is “suspended,” “under cyber attack,” or requires “verification.”
  2. The Panic: They create urgency, claiming you will lose access to your funds if you don’t act immediately.
  3. The Theft: They ask for sensitive confidential data that Meezan Bank will NEVER ask for, such as:
    • One-Time Password (OTP)
    • Internet Banking Username/Password2
    • Debit Card 16-digit Number & PIN
    • CNIC Number and Mother’s Maiden Name

Critical Rule: Meezan Bank (and any legitimate bank) will NEVER call you to ask for your password, PIN, or OTP. If a caller asks for these, it is a scam 100% of the time.

Immediate Steps to Take if You Receive a Suspicious Call

If you receive a call from 111-331-331 asking for personal details, follow these steps immediately:

  • 1. Hang Up Immediately: Do not engage or argue. Cut the call instantly.
  • 2. Do Not Share OTPs: Never read out the 4-6 digit code sent to your phone, no matter how “official” the caller sounds.
  • 3. Verify Independently: If you are worried about your account, dial the helpline yourself from a different phone line if possible, or use the Meezan Mobile App to check your status.
  • 4. Freeze Your Card (If Compromised): If you accidentally shared details, log in to your app and temporarily block your debit card immediately.

How to Report the Scam

Help protect others by reporting these fraudulent numbers.

Safety Checklist: How to Stay Safe

  • Enable SMS/App Alerts: Ensure you get instant notifications for all transactions.
  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Always keep 2FA enabled for internet banking.3
  • Trust Your Instincts: Banks do not call customers to “fix” hacking attempts over the phone. They simply block the account and wait for you to visit a branch.

Scammers are spoofing Meezan Bank’s 111-331-331 helpline to steal your money. Remember: The number on your screen can be faked, but your bank will never ask for your password or OTP. When in doubt, hang up.
