The Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) has released fresh updates on the much-discussed Murree Glass Train, offering the public a clearer view of what the electric monorail will look like once operational. Designed as a modern, eco-friendly alternative to road travel, the project aims to give tourists and daily commuters a cleaner, faster and more scenic route between Islamabad and Murree.

  • Fare Structure Announced
  • A Fully Electric, Eco-Friendly System

The new transport system is part of a wider effort to reduce traffic congestion on the Murree Expressway, which regularly sees heavy jams during peak seasons.

What the Route Will Look Like

According to PMA, the train will begin its journey inside Islamabad and move upward toward Murree using elevated tracks built along hilly terrain. The entire route is being planned with scenic visibility in mind — the glass-covered cabins will offer uninterrupted views of mountains, valleys and forest areas throughout the ride.

The authority emphasized that the goal is not only quick travel but also an enjoyable one, turning the route itself into a tourist experience.

Four Key Stops Along the Way

To improve accessibility and reduce pressure on roads, the train will stop at four major locations:

  • Lake View Park — the starting point inside Islamabad
  • Chattar Park — providing access to picnic and recreation areas
  • Ghora Gali — a midpoint surrounded by resorts and educational institutions
  • Murree Bus Stand — the final station close to the main city

These stops are expected to support both local mobility and tourist movement, offering alternatives to private cars, vans and buses.

Fare Structure Announced

PMA has confirmed the initial ticket prices for the service:

  • Rs. 500 for a standard ticket
  • Rs. 1,000 for a premium ticket with added comfort

The aim is to keep the service affordable while still providing a higher-tier option for travelers who prefer enhanced seating and cabin experience.

A Fully Electric, Eco-Friendly System

One of the major highlights of the Murree Glass Train is its commitment to clean energy. The entire system will run on electricity, allowing it to:

  • Reduce fuel consumption
  • Lower emissions
  • Ease load on local roads
  • Minimize noise pollution in environmentally sensitive areas

PMA believes the electric monorail will improve long-term sustainability and help protect Murree’s natural environment, which has faced increasing pressure from rising tourism.

While excitement around the project continues to grow, PMA says final details such as the launch date, trial runs and daily schedule will be announced once construction milestones are met. The authority has also indicated that additional technical information will be shared as work progresses.

For now, the Murree Glass Train stands as one of the most anticipated transport developments in the region — a modern link promising convenience, reduced traffic and a memorable travel experience for locals and tourists alike.
