GWADAR/DERA MURAD JAMALI: In one of the biggest robberies reported in Balochistan this year, armed men looted Rs220 million from the van of a private security company on the M-8 motorway in Kech district on Tuesday.
According to police, the security company was transporting cash from two private banks in Turbat to Karachi when the incident occurred. The robbers intercepted the van at the Dasht-Kuddan crossing, around 150 kilometres from Turbat, and held the guards hostage before fleeing with the money.
Officials confirmed the stolen amount included Rs145 million belonging to one bank and over Rs71 million to another.
“Around Rs220 million was looted from the van,” a senior police officer said, adding that law enforcement agencies had launched a search operation in the area to track down the suspects.
Three Dead in Nasirabad Violence
Meanwhile, in Nasirabad district, three people were killed in two separate incidents of firing the same day.
In the Chatter area, armed men opened fire on two brothers, Muhammad Hashim and Ahmed, as they were returning home. Both died on the spot after receiving multiple bullet wounds. Police linked the attack to an ongoing land dispute. The bodies were shifted to the District Hospital Dera Murad Jamali for medico-legal formalities.
In a separate incident in Phulaji area of Chatter tehsil, gunmen shot dead a man identified as Juro Khan while he was passing through the locality. The attackers managed to escape.
Security Concerns Rising
The incidents underscore worsening law and order concerns in southern and central Balochistan, where armed groups frequently target security convoys, banks, and civilians. Authorities said further investigations were underway.
