A major terrorist attack targeting the Cadet College Wana in Pakistan’s South Waziristan district was foiled late Monday evening after a fierce exchange of fire between militants and security forces. The incident, which began with a massive explosion at the college’s main gate, left at least six civilians injured while all cadets and staff were safely evacuated.

According to initial reports, heavily armed militants attempted to breach the main gate of the Cadet College using an explosives-laden vehicle. The blast caused significant structural damage and was followed by intense gunfire as militants tried to storm the premises. Security personnel stationed at the college immediately responded, engaging the attackers in a firefight that lasted nearly an hour.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that at least two terrorists were killed during the initial response, while others were cornered inside the administrative block. Quick reinforcements from nearby military units successfully contained the assault, preventing the attackers from reaching the student dormitories.

Eyewitnesses in the area reported hearing multiple explosions and continuous bursts of gunfire. Thick smoke was seen rising from the college compound before the situation was brought under control. Rescue teams rushed the injured civilians, including a guard and two passersby, to District Headquarters Hospital Wana, where their condition is said to be stable.

The ISPR stated that the terrorists belonged to a group operating from across the Afghan border and received external facilitation. The military spokesperson condemned the attack, labeling the assailants as “khawarij elements” attempting to sabotage peace in the region. The statement added, “Such cowardly acts are a continuation of efforts by hostile intelligence networks to destabilize Pakistan. The Pakistan Army, along with law enforcement agencies, remains fully prepared to neutralize all threats.”

Security forces have launched a search and clearance operation in and around the area to ensure no further threats remain. Authorities have also recovered weapons, suicide vests, and communication equipment from the slain attackers.
